Free Pattern: Cable and Cross





This hat has a lot of cables that twist and criss-cross!  All you need is some yarn, your preferred needles for knitting in the round, a cabling needle, and you are good to go!

Materials
Needles:       US Size 5 (3.75 mm) circular needles or DPNs
Gauge:          Not super important
Yarn:             Malabrigo Arroyo (or any sport weight yarn you prefer!)
Skills:            Cabling
Etc:               Darning needle, cable needle

Abbreviations
C2f:
Slip next stitch onto the cable needle and hold to front of work, knit the next stitch from knitting needle, then knit stitch off of cable needle
C4b:
Slip next two stitches onto cable needle and hold to back of work, knit the next two stitches from left needle, then knit two stitches off of cable needle

C4f:
Slip next two stitches onto cable needle and hold to front of work, knit next two stitches from left needle, then knit two stitches off of cable needle

K2tog:
Knit next two stitches together
P2tog:
Purl next two stitches together
Sk2tog:
Slip stitch as if to knit (if first stitch is a knit stitch) from left needle to right needle, then back to the left needle.  Knit two stitches together.  If first stitch is a purl stitch, slip it purlwise.

Ssk:
Slip next two stitches separately as if to knit, then insert needle into both stitches and knit together

T3b:
Slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold to back of work, knit next two stitches, purl stitch off of cable needle

T2f:
Slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold to front of work, purl next stitch, knit stitch off of the cable needle


Pattern
CO 120 (distribute them as you wish depending on what needles you are using)

Ribbing:
K2, p2 rib for 3 inches

Set-up:
Stp 1:   *T3f, t3b, p1, t2b, t2f, p1* repeat until end

Body:
Rnd 1:   *P1, k4, p2, k1, p2, k1, p1* repeat until end
Rnd 2:   *P1, k4, p1, t2b, p2, t2f* repeat until end
Rnd 3:   *P1, c4f, p1, k1, p4, k1, p1, c4b, p1, k1, p4, k1* repeat until end
Rnd 4:   *P1, k4, p1, t2f, p2, t2b* repeat until end
Rnd 5:   *P1, k4, p2, k1, p2, k1, p1* repeat until end
Rnd 6:   *P1, k4, p2, t2f, t2b, p1* repeat until end
Rnd 7:   *P1, k4, p3, c2f, p2* repeat until end
Rnd 8:   *P1, k4, p2, t2b, t2f, p1* repeat until end
Repeat Rounds 1-8 four more times (5 times total)
Repeat Rounds 1-6

Dcr 11:  *P1, ssk, k6, k2tog, p1, k1* repeat until end
Dcr 12:  *P1, c4f, cfb, p1, k1* repeat until end
Dcr 13:  *P1, ssk, k4, k2tog, p1, k1* repeat until end
Dcr 14:  *P1, k6, p1, k1* repeat until end

Cut yarn and draw through the remaining stitches, tie off and weave in the remaining thread!
